THE CIRCLE: part 10 - CHAINS UNBROKEN

Everybody is in love with the sinfully handsome Alejandro. Maya, the beautiful voodoo practising housekeeper has taken her feelings for him to a dark and obsessive level by creating a shrine for him deep inside her closet.  Even that old Jezebel , Madam Isabella de la Rosa is also trying to scheme her way into his bed. But all his heart is for the complicated and evasive Maria.
Gladys sighed with mild annoyance as she watched her heartthrob pursuing after Maria under the rain, just in jeans, muddy cowboy boots and bare chest. Maria was sitting at the  back of a taxi, tears streaming down her face trying hard not to look at Alejandro who was running as fast as he could screaming her name.
' Chai...what a man! ...infact this guy na correct Alpha male'  she concludes as she fixed her eyes on his chest rippling with muscles.
' But come o, how come no guy has ever pursued me under the rain'. Infact the last relationship she almost got into had died a natural death because the annoying Victor guy had abandoned her and rushed into a taxi as soon as the clouds turned dark.
'Nne ' he said waving at her 'we shall see in church nah, shebi U dey go Chief Okoye Avenue, try enter taxi make rain no beat you'
Mchteeeew all these unromantic church boys.
One gave her a note book and a pen for birthday gift. As per she should be going about copying notes. Meanwhile guys like Alejandro will shop for diamonds and pearls for the love of their lives.
Her phone rang. She managed to tear her eyes from the screen to look at the phone.
'What is she calling me for by this time ?' she said frowning, she tried to ignore the call. Then she remembered, It was friday night. Vigil night. But she didnt recall indicating interests.
The call came in again, this time she was angry with herself for not switching off the phone earlier. Friday's Telemundo always featured CRY OF THE LONELY HEARTS marathon and she wasn't about to miss it. There will always be a vigil someother time but she wasn't sure there would be a rerun of her favorite series. If she switched it off now she won't have peace by the next  program in church.
She picked the call.
' hello...Yes Ayo, whats up?' she did her best to conceal her irritation.
'Oh hi Gladys...how are you doing?
'I'm good and you?
'Great, well I called to let you know that pastor mandated that all the women should show up in church for the vigil. its very important'
Gladys was quiet for a while not knowing how she should respond.
'Ok, what happened...I hope all is well?' She asked. Pastor hardly weighed in on anything the women were doing in church. He generally allowed the older women like Mrs. Richards to run the whole thing.
'Hmmm...sis me so much has happened o' sis Ayo said, ' do you know that Mrs. Richards housegirl?'
'Yes I do' gladys had only a faint image of a young girl, probably in her late teens or early twenties who sat at the back of the church with Mrs. Richards young son.
'Hmmm! The girl is a witch o...mrs Richards caught her red handed and she confessed. Turns out some people in church and in the town are part of a coven that has been wrecking havoc in town'
Gladys was speechless, fear  crept in on her . Alot of things now added up with this frightening new information. She realized she was home alone watching an ungodly TV show while witches operated in her town almost without restraint. What if one of them decided to pay her a visit. Would she even know how to confront them when all that has been on her mind was Alejandro.  She checked her time , it was already 9:15pm.
'Ok let me get dressed, I'm coming' she stood up and switched off the TV.
'Lord please forgive me' she prayed softly as she headed to her room to change.
